Flags Remain at Half Mast for London, Ontario Muslim Family
As an expression of mourning for the London, Ontario family who were deliberately killed because of their Islamic faith, Village of Merrickville-Wolford flags will remain at half-mast until sunrise on Thursday June 10, 2021.
In announcing that the flags will remain at half mast, Mayor Struthers expressed, “There is a deep and prevailing sadness in our community about the senseless loss of three generations suffered by this London, Ontario family for no reason other than their faith. It is extremely important that we join our local Muslim residents in expressing our shock and sorrow about this hateful crime. Our community is filled with welcoming, caring residents and business owners who walk in solidarity with all Canadians in wanting people of all faiths to feel safe and welcome in our communities.”
The Village’s flags were lowered last week in honour of the 215 children whose remains were found at a residential school in Kamloops, BC, and were originally to remain lowered until June 8th. The flags will now return to full-mast at sunrise on June 10th.
