The Merrickville Blockhouse Museum has an opening for a museum interpreter. This exciting position will give you the opportunity to research and present our heritage to the over 10,000 visitors from across Canada and around the world who visit Merrickville-Wolford each summer.

The Merrickville Blockhouse Museum (https://www.merrickvillehistory.org/) is a unique heritage structure, built as part of the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum contains a large collection of local artefacts and specially constructed displays which feature the history of Merrickville Wolford and the history of the Rideau Canal.

The Museum Interpreter will work as part of a team. Duties will include:
● Welcoming visitors, making them feel comfortable, identifying their interests and providing an excellent visitor experience for them during their time at the Merrickville Blockhouse Museum
● Researching, presenting and demonstrating to a variety of audiences, the rich history of the Blockhouse and the Rideau Canal
● Opening and closing the museum each day
● Keeping attendance records
● Accepting donations for entrance to the museum
● Monitoring and reporting on the condition of artifacts and displays
● Taking part in the execution of 2 museum summer events
● Various marketing and social media tasks
● Contributing to a positive team environment with colleagues, Society members and community stakeholders
● Other duties as assigned

Wage: $17.75 per hour
Hours of Work: 9am-5pm, includes weekends and some evenings

*Applicants must be aged 16-30 and a student returning to full time studies in September.
