Within a term of Council, appointments are made for the volunteer advisory committees and boards to support Council’s decision-making and effective governance of the municipality in an advisory capacity. Their decisions are forwarded to Council for approval.
To become a volunteer member of a Village board or committee, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
- A resident of the Village of Merrickville-Wolford (tenant or business owner, or spouse thereof)
- At least 18 years of age
These qualifications are subject to the corresponding legislative authorities (ie. Ontario Heritage Act, Public Libraries Act, etc.)
All Committee and Board meetings are open to the public.
Appointments to Boards and Committees
Shortly after being elected, each new Village of Merrickville-Wolford Council forms a series of volunteer advisory committees and boards to support Council’s effective governance of the municipality. Some committees and boards are regulated by Provincial statute and others are not but all board and committee members must comply with the Village’s Procedure By-law and other related policies and legislation.
Applications can be submitted throughout the term of Council. Appointments are made at the beginning of a new term of Council, or throughout the term when there are vacancies.
At this time, there is a pause on advisory committee recruitment. This will be re-evaluated after Council has finalized the new Strategic Plan.
There are currently two vacancies on the Blockhouse Museum Municipal Services Board. The Board is looking for dedicated community members excited to join a collaborative team and put their creativity to good use. They are particularly interested in candidates with marketing and communications experience, but all passionate individuals eager to lend a hand are welcome.
Candidates should be prepared to attend monthly meetings for a total time commitment of 4-6 hours/month.
There is also an active call open for the 2026 Canada Day Committee. Please review the Canada Day Committee - Terms of Reference to learn more about the role of the Committee. The recruitment call is open for one (1) Merrickville resident and one (1) Wolford resident.
Deadline to apply: Friday, January 16th, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.
