Highlights from the September 22nd Regular Council Meeting
- The tenders were awarded for the Bolton and Pioneer Roads ditching and brushing.
- Council approved the purchase and installation of signal lights for the crosswalks at Main St E & Church St., St. Lawrence St & Drummond St., and Mill Street, north of the swing bridge.
- The By-law to authorize internet & telephone voting for the 2026 Municipal Election was enacted.
- Approval was given to pause recruitment for committees to be reevaluated after the Strategic Plan and its priorities have been set.
- Council approved the recommendation from the Canada Day Committee to allocate funds annually to the Agricultural Society and Firefighters’ Association to ensure continuous festivities each year.
- The ORV By-law was approved. The AMPs amending by-law was approved to reflect the designation of the ORV By-law under AMPS.
- Council authorized the reduction of speed on Kilmarnock Road from Sturgess Road to the Rideau Canal Lock 24 (Kilmarnock) to 60 km/hour.
- Direction was given to proceed with obtaining traffic count & speed data as identified in the report as per the scoring matrix.
- Authorization was given for an additional $31,389 to be drawn from the Working Fund Reserve to complete the Merrickville Community Centre renovation project.
- Consent Application B-61-25 was endorsed & recommended for approval to the UCLG Consent Granting Authority.
- The By-law to grant the Part Lot Control Exemption for Block 20 (Parkview Homes) was endorsed & authorized to be sent to UCLG for final decision.
- The building application for the heritage designated property of 147 St. Lawrence Street was approved.
- Reports from the Blockhouse Museum were received for information.
- Resolutions of support were approved for Producer Responsibility of Blue Boxes and for the Declaration of Food Insecurity in Merrickville-Wolford.
- A formal request letter was endorsed to be sent to UCLG to address safety concerns in Jasper for traffic calming on County Road 16.
- Direction was given to staff to bring a report to the October 14th Committee of the Whole regarding the request for ownership transfer of the Merrickville Turbine.
- Notices of motion were read out regarding pedestrian & bicycle traffic and unopened road allowances. They will be placed on the October COW agenda for further discussion.
- Council rose from Closed Session & reported that staff is directed to proceed with advocating for a 20m right-of-way width for McLean’s Landing Phase II for Item 4.2, and directed to proceed with denying the fence by-law exemption request as presented in item 4.3.

Municipal Reminders
Property tax bills & utility bills are due on September 30th.
Please note that September 30th is National Truth & Reconciliation Day. Banks will be closed that day but the Municipal Office will be open. Payments can take up to 3-4 business days for the municipality to receive them. Please plan payments accordingly to prevent penalty.
