Highlights from the November 24th Regular Council Meeting
- The Minutes were approved from the October 27th Regular Council Meeting & November 10th Committee of the Whole Meeting.
- The By-law to Establish Highways & Provide for Road Classifications was enacted. (Roads Classification By-law (55-2025)
- The Open Air Burn By-law was referred to the December 8th Committee of the Whole Meeting for further review and consideration of the redline version of the draft by-law.
- The 2026 Meeting Schedule for Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings was approved.
- Council received a delegation from Mary Kate Laphen regarding the Merrickville Public Library’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.
- Direction was given to proceed with the option of replacing the full tin roof on the Municipal Office building.
- Council received a utility arrears report for information and no further direction was given.
- The request for exemption from the Zoning and Backyard Hen By-laws was referred to the January 12th Committee of the Whole meeting. Staff was directed to review the Zoning By-law to determine if changes should be made to the hobby farm and backyard hen provisions for properties outside the settlement areas.
- Departmental Activity Updates were provided from the Public Works, Fire/By-law and Clerk Departments.
- Support was approved for the following resolutions: Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund from Township of Edwardsburgh/Cardinal; St. Lawrence Region Energy Task Force from City of Brockville; and Elect Respect Pledge from Township of Augusta.
- The draft Unopened Road Allowance Policy was deferred to a future Committee of the Whole Meeting to allow for further consideration and more background information from Planning and any other necessary external parties.
Special Council Meetings were held on November 20th and 21st to discuss the Financial Management Strategy.
There will be a Special Council Meeting on Monday, December 1st at 3:00 p.m. for Council to review the draft Operating Budget.

The CPKC Holiday Train is coming to Merrickville!
The Holiday Train will be in town on Friday, November 28th at 4:45 p.m.
