Highlights from the February 23rd Regular Council Meeting
- The Minutes were approved from the Meetings on January 26th and the Committee of the Whole on February 9th.
- Council approved the 2026 Brush Amnesty Days Schedule. The dates will be posted publicly for resident information.
- Council authorized the business recycling program, being the businesses to pay the processing cost for their recycling at the landfill scales & charged $251/ton of material & the Village covers the cost of rental & hauling. This is a pilot project until December 31, 2026, with a 6-month update report to come back to Council.
- The By-law to Accept McLean’s Landing Phase I Subdivision was enacted.
- The Tiered Response Agreement between the Leeds & Grenville Paramedic Service & Merrickville Fire Department was approved & authorized for signing.
- The Merrickville Fairgrounds was approved as the location for the dog park as proposed and spearheaded by Amanda Casselden.
- Zoning amendment file ZBA-08-2025 was approved as recommended.
- The Plan of Subdivision (McLean Landing) report was received & the draft conditions of approval were recommended to the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville for approval.
- Council appointed Sarah Silvester to the Blockhouse Museum Board.
- A report was received for information regarding the Communication Survey Results & Feedback. Staff will work towards assessing the feedback & improving communication to residents.
- Council received 2 Integrity Commissioner Reports. They will be posted publicly on the website.
- Council endorsed a letter of support for enhanced school bus safety.
Municipal Update
Starting in March, an enhanced recycling system is coming to Merrickville-Wolford, including curbside recycling collection for both Merrickville & Wolford Wards.
Collection will take place every Wednesday, alternating weekly between containers & paper/fibre.
1st Collection - Wednesday, March 4th.
The Depot will still remain open for resident’s recycling until May 31, 2026 as a courtesy during the transition process.
