Below is an advisory provided by Hydro-One:
There is an upcoming weather system expected to affect parts of eastern and central Ontario over the next 24 hours. Current forecasts indicate significant rainfall, strong wind gusts, and the potential for freezing rain in several areas. These conditions may lead to ice buildup on power lines, equipment, and nearby tree limbs, which can result in localized power outages or service disruptions. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation, and as always, safety and preparedness remain our top priorities. Should outages occur, an estimated time of restoration will be provided once crews have assessed any damage.
We prepare extensively for severe weather by ensuring we have the necessary resources, equipment, and personnel in place. This includes teams from across our organization such as crews, mechanics, warehouse staff, and our call centre, all ready to respond as needed.
Customers are encouraged to prepare for the possibility of an extended outage by restocking their emergency kits with items suited to their household needs—such as water, non‑perishable food, cash, blankets, medication, flashlights, and extra batteries to charge cell phones. More information on emergency kits can be found at Emergency Preparedness | Hydro One
Hydro One customers have several ways to report an outage, including by text (WATTS) or online through our outage map. We also encourage customers to download the Hydro One app to access real‑time outage updates. Learn more at Outage Tools | Hydro One
Safety remains our highest priority. In the event of outages, it is critical that customers and the public remain far away from any fallen power lines—at least 10 metres back, the length of a school bus—and report them to 911 and Hydro One. Customers using generators should ensure they are placed outside and away from windows or ventilation.
