MARCH 27, 2026 - At the Regular Meeting on March 23, 2026, the Council of the Corporation of the Village of Merrickville-Wolford passed its 2026 Budget.
The final approved budget includes a 3.81% municipal tax increase over 2025. The United Counties of Leeds and Grenville approved a budget increase of 2.46% and the education tax rate remains at a 0% increase for 2026.
The key highlights of the Village’s 2026 budget include.
- Wellington Street West (from St. Lawrence to St. Patrick Street) will be reconstructed with new infrastructure and asphalt surface.
The relining of the sanitary sewer along St. Lawrence Street will reduce infiltration and extend the lifespan of the existing sanitary sewer line.
The total project cost is approximately 3.5 million, 2.5 million has been received in Grant Funding toward this project.
- Corktown Road is planned to be brushed, ditched, culvert replacements, reconstruction in areas, and re-gravel.
- Bolton and Pioneer Roads are planned to be reconstructed in areas and re-gravel.
- Re-gravel Program:
- Montague Road
- Kerford
- Maitland, Barber (East and West)
- Weedmark
- Carleys Corners, and
- Eastons Corners - Plans for Railway Street are ongoing.
- Crack sealing will be scheduled to mitigate water penetration.
Public Works will be pursuing a new 1-ton work truck to replace the 2014 truck used for plowing and sanding winter operations and general uses throughout the season.
The purchase of a new Fire Pumper Tanker to replace the 1998 Fire Pumper/Tanker is included in the Capital Budget. A successful grant application that will cover the funding for a Bunker Gear Circular NFPA Compliant Dryer.
The installation of a separate underground line for hydro to the podium area at Cenotaph Park was approved.
Funds for a Benchmarking Exercise for the Public Works and Fire Department will be drawn from the Working Reserves.
