Household Garbage and Recycling
Household Garbage and Recycling is the same for all residents within both the Merrickville and Wolford Wards.
Garbage & recycling is now curbside pickup throughout the entire municipality.
Collection
Garbage collection is every Wednesday, unless it is a holiday. This will be noted in the Collection Calendar.
Recyclable collection will alternate weekly between containers and paper/fibre.
Garbage and recycling must be at the curbside by 7:00 a.m.
All bags must have municipally issued bag tags on them to be picked up.
Merrickville Ward
Waste collection will be picked up at each individual property at the curb.
Wolford Ward
Waste collection will be picked up at at each individual property at the curb on all Municipal and County Roads. For Private Roads, waste collection will be picked up at the beginning of a Private Road (at intersection of Private Road and Municipal or County Road). The Kodiak Residential Model of communal waste bins manufactured by "TuffBoxx" are recommended for private roads.
Bag Tags
The tags cost $25 for a sheet of 10 tags, or $2.50 per tag.
Bag tags can be purchased at the Municipal Office and the Landfill Site.
Recycling
Merrickville-Wolford’s recycling program is managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling program in Ontario.

Business Garbage and Recycling
As of January 1st, 2026, the province is responsible for all recycling programs in Ontario. As part of the changes to the recycling programs, businesses are now responsible for their own recycling and the costs associated with these services.
The Village of Merrickville-Wolford will have separate recycling bins available at the Landfill for businesses to dispose of their recycling at a cost of $251.00/ per ton.

The $251 per ton is straight processing costs passed to the Village by the contractor. The Municipality will be covering the cost of bin rentals and hauling fees for a pilot period to the end of December 2026. Please view the agendas where this was brought for Council consideration and decision:

Entry Permit
In order to enter the landfill, each resident, tenant and business owner must show their landfill (laminated) entry permit. The permit is available free of charge from the municipal office. It is assigned to the license plate of the vehicle entering the landfill.
If you are a contractor or transporting another resident's garbage, you need to complete in-full a Contractor Landfill Permit. Note: you no longer have to bring the form into the Municipal Office; bring it directly to the landfill.
Bag Tags
All household garbage entering the landfill must be bagged and tagged. The tags cost $25 per sheet of 10 tags, or $2.50 per tag, for both the Merrickville and Wolford Wards.
Non-Bagged Waste
If you are not certain that the landfill will take it, telephone the landfill on the days that it is opened.
Grass Clippings & Yard Waste
Grass clippings and yard waste (excluding brush material) are free to dispose of at the Landfill Site during regular Landfill business hours. The material is used for cover at the Landfill Site.
2026 Brush Amnesty Dates
The 2026 Brush Amnesty Schedule dates are as follows:
Spring Cycle - April 4th and April 11th
Summer Cycle - June 6th and June 13th
Fall Cycle - September 5th and September 12th
Residents are allowed to bring one half-ton truck or 4x8 utility trailer free of charge to the Landfill site on the dates listed above. One load per property with a landfill card.
